In Greek mythology, Ceto is a daughter of Gaia and Pontus, associated with the sea and the creatures at its mysterious edges. Hesiod names her among the early divine family and tells of her offspring with Phorcys. The garden in this artwork is Cuepoxy’s imagination, not a place described in the ancient sources.

In The Garden of Ceto, an amethyst-studded, sponge-like form rises on twin stems above deep teal water. Crystal fragments catch the light, while a piece of twisted driftwood suggests a visitor from the world above. Carry this otherworldly seascape into a quiet coffee or tea ritual with collectible mug #20.

Artist’s Note

I built this imagined garden around the amethyst-studded central structure, with the blue-green resin and driftwood suggesting a world beyond the reach of sunlight. The artwork featured on this mug is a real, handcrafted Cuepoxy piece in my private collection; the physical original is not included with the mug. This is collectible mug #20 of 30, created so the image can be enjoyed beyond the private collection. The artwork may also be presented in other formats, including wall art.
