The Cave of Charybdis | Cuepoxy Collectible Mug #15

In Homer’s Odyssey, Charybdis is the terrifying force that draws the sea down into a whirlpool and sends it surging back. Odysseus must navigate the narrow passage between her and Scylla, a reminder that some dangers are not conquered but crossed with care.
Cuepoxy’s The Cave of Charybdis imagines a different view beneath that restless water. Blue and purple crystal details frame an open oyster shell with three dark pearls; rose quartz and a smaller pearl-bearing shell rest above a circular resin base. On this mug, the piece holds the story’s tension between beauty and danger, inviting a closer look without forgetting the power of the sea.

Artist’s Note
I imagined a cave whose light could be both beautiful and a warning; the three dark pearls became its watchful eyes. The artwork featured on this mug is a real, handcrafted Cuepoxy piece in my private collection; the physical original is not included with the mug. This is collectible mug #15 of 30, created so the image can be enjoyed beyond the private collection. The artwork may also be presented in other formats, including wall art.
